Our methodology

How calculations are performed

Our calculators use standard gas-law equations. Results are computed from the values entered into the relevant calculator.

Equations

  • Boyle's law: P₁V₁ = P₂V₂.
  • Charles's law: V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂.
  • Gay-Lussac's law: P₁/T₁ = P₂/T₂.
  • Combined gas law: P₁V₁/T₁ = P₂V₂/T₂.
  • Ideal gas law: PV = nRT.

Units

Temperature in gas-law equations must be expressed in Kelvin. Pressure must be absolute pressure. The ideal gas constant must match the pressure and volume units used in the calculation.

Validation

Calculator inputs should be finite and positive for the supported calculations. Invalid or missing values should be corrected before interpreting a result.

Model limitations

The ideal gas law assumes simplified gas behavior. Real gases can deviate from this model, especially at high pressure or low temperature. These calculators do not replace experimental measurements or professional scientific review.
